Our First Open Water Divers – Proud, Certified, and Ready for More
This is a BIG one.
We’re over the moon to share that our first-ever Open Water Divers have officially been certified!
What began as a dream to make scuba diving more inclusive for underrepresented children is now a real and growing movement.
Over the past few months, we’ve watched these amazing young people go from curious newcomers to confident divers—learning everything from basic skills in the pool to controlled descents in open water.
They’ve been brave, committed, and full of questions. And now, they’ve got their certification cards to prove it.
The certification dives took place over a weekend at Vobster Quay, and the excitement was electric. Despite a grey afternoon and cool 17°C air temperature on Day One, spirits were high as the group arrived to meet their JC Scuba instructors. The plan for the day: skill demonstrations and a short swim at 6 metres max depth.
Day Two kicked off bright and early at 8:30 AM, this time under a sunny sky and slightly warmer conditions. The focus was navigation—followed by a full dive to 12 metres!
Even with semi-dry suits and brisk water, the kids couldn’t stop smiling.
High-fives, hugs, and proud photos wrapped up the weekend, and one Vobster staff member even commented, “I can see they’ve really enjoyed themselves. We’d love to see more young people like this here.”
It was clear: they didn’t just earn certifications—they made an impression.
